Hey guys, so three years ago today I made my way down the aisle to meet Mike! Definitely the greatest day of my life. But on this day I tend to think about our journey, and how we made our way to the greatest day of my life. Our love story is a little unconventional, fast paced, and even has a few laughs in it (I think). So, I figured why not share the story with everyone?
Ok, let’s rewind all the way back to Winter 2012 shall we? I was a single girl living in Cincinnati, OH. My neighbor talked me into signing up for a dating site called OkCupid. I was hesitant, but I’m not much of a go out type of person, I tend to enjoy staying in my own home, and meeting a guy really wasn’t happening that way. I decided, why not?! When I signed up I wasn’t having very much luck, but in April 2013 I read this guy’s profile, “Mike.” He looked cute, but that’s not what popped out to me. His profile stated, and I quote “I don’t eat fast food.” Well, I was offended. I mean who doesn’t love a Whopper? After reading this sentence I wasn’t really too observant about where he lived, and I definitely wasn’t even concerned any more that he was cute…I needed to get to the bottom of the reason as to why this guy “Does not eat fast food.”
I sent Mike a private message, that said “You have to eat fast food, there is no way that your life can go on without having a Whopper every once in a while!” He came back with “Sorry a McDonald’s sandwich just doesn’t do it for me.” If you thought I was offended before, now I was seriously like “Who is this guy, he doesn’t eat Whoppers, AND he thinks Burger King is McDonald’s?!” From there we kind of bantered back and forth for a while, and then started talking about more meaningful topics.
**I do want everyone to know, that Burger King is a monthly regular in our house now, and McDonald’s breakfast is now Mike’s favorite breakfast, ha! I showed him 🙂
About 2 weeks of us talking on the phone and through text messages had past, and Mike asked if we could meet. I said sure. So that Friday he came up from Louisville, KY (he was stationed at Ft. Knox) and we went out on our first date. Now I always tease Mike about this, because it was seriously the strangest thing ever…he’s lucky I didn’t just cut the date early and run…just kidding it’s not that bad, BUT! When he came to pick me up I reached up to give him a hug, to say hello, and he just kissed me. Not some romantic passionate kiss that swept me off my feet, a weird awkward peck on my lips that was not smooth, he actually hesitated about two different times. It seemed as if he thought “Should I give her a hug or kiss her…hug, no kiss, no hug, ok fine kiss.” (Trust me I ask him all the time what was going through his mind, his response is “I’m not sure I was nervous, and you were a lot prettier than I thought you would be. Plus I already knew I liked you, so I was was just nervous”)…I guess he gets points for that, right?
We then went to get a few drinks around the corner, and then walked a couple blocks down to a Mexican restaurant in the middle of Downtown. We had great conversation and everything just seemed to be perfect. When we left the restaurant he finally reached down and gave me a romantic kiss that swept me off my feet. He then looked at me and told me “I’m going to marry you, you will be my wife.” If I didn’t have electricty going through my body from his kiss, that statement sure did it! I honestly felt like I was floating on air the rest of the walk home…insert all the dreamy heart eyes here!!
As our date ended, I like him, knew that one day I would be walking down the aisle towards him. Here we are 3 years from that day, with a beautiful little girl, two fur girls, continuing our fun rollercoaster of life together. I am so happy he offended me by not eating fast food, and I am even more happy I tried to call him out on it! If I wouldn’t have said something, I would have missed out on the greatest love I could ever know 🙂
Happy Anniversary Michael. I love you.
