Alright guys, book 3 of 5, “Everything You Want Me to Be, By Mindy Mejia,” is finished and I am ready to share with you all my thoughts! Let’s start with why I choose this book. HA! Well, I didn’t really “choose” this book per se. Amazon said I would like it based on my previous book purchases, so I decided to give it a whirl, to see if Amazon’s recommendations are on point or not. Here’s what I can say. Next time Amazon recommends a book for me, I will look into it more than I did with this purchase. With that being said, let’s get to it.
So I didn’t hate, nor did I dislike this book. It was just decent. I don’t feel as if I wasted my time, but I definitely feel as if I may have wasted my money. This is the type of book you rent from the library, or borrow from a friend to read. And let me explain why… there was no surprise, no “Oh-emm-gee” moment. You basically saw everything that was coming, and if you didn’t have it exactly pin-pointed by the end, you had already thought the outcome at some point during the book. To me that’s not money worthy, that’s borrow worthy.
So what’s the book about? A soon-to-be high school graduate, Hattie, is striving to leave her small town life in pursuit of the Big Apple. She has always been the perfect daughter, friend, student, along with being a tremendous actress. But she has felt that she hasn’t just been acting on the stage, she’s been acting her whole life, in every aspect. While doing the research online to plan her new life in New York City, she finds herself in a secret relationship that for once she feels herself in. However, could this relationship be what led to her stabbing and murder, or was it the “curse” that has for centuries haunted the play, that she was starring in, or could it have been her cover-up high school boyfriend? This book takes you through Hattie’s life leading up to her murder, while flipping back to her murder investigation. Find out about Hattie’s secrets, how she was murdered, by whom she was murdered, and why her life was taking so suddenly.
